Happy 1st Birthday

Dear Cooper,

Well, it finally happened. Your Mom has decided to give the blogging world a whirl. She figured what better reason than to commemorate your 1st Birthday! It will be a perfect way for all those that love and adore you to check in and see what’s going on in your world. Your 1st birthday celebration was wonderful. The only thing that would have made it perfect is if all your friends and family could have been there to celebrate with us. They sent lots of love and made sure you knew they were thinking about you on your special day. It was just the three of us (Targhee and Kokanee too) for the 1st Annual Cooper Birthday Extravaganza and we had fun, fun, fun. Here are a couple of pics to show off the day.

We started off the day doing something that every tourist in our town does; we hit the mini carnival and took a spin on the Pigeon Forge Express. It was a first for all of us. You’ll later learn that the main drag in Pigeon Forge is kind of like Vegas for little tykes and senior citizens. It’s full of arcades, go carts and pancake houses. A definite eyesore and something we would normally avoid. But not on your Birthday!

Your expression doesn't show it but you were having fun. I promise.

We then came home and took a family nap. This might have been more of a party favor for Mom and Dad, but you seemed to enjoy it as well. Next, we opened presents. You were definitely more interested in the paper, boxes and envelopes. I'm quite certain that will change in time.

A little help from Dad

After that, we had afternoon birthday cake. Your first Chocolate experience! A little side note~ your mother is not a baker (you’ll soon learn this about her). She was very proud of her “masterpiece”. Luckily, we cut a little section for you to devour, consume and enjoy. Your Dad and I decided we’d wait to have our pieces later in the evening. Here’s a pic of your cake (more on this later).

Next up~an evening hike in the hills around our house to test out your new backpack. About 10 minutes into our stroll, we realized we left your cake on the counter . Your Dogs are usually well behaved when it comes to staying off the counters, but we knew even your precious canine siblings wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation. Your Dad then pulled a Forrest Gump and ran, and ran, and ran back home as fast as he could to save the cake. Although he is a hero in our eyes, he wasn’t quite fast enough.

The dogs were just within licking distance but luckily, they were fine. We were a little frightened (okay, very frightened) because chocolate can be toxic to doggies. We spent time researching online and called your Auntie Z to make sure we didn't need to rush them to the vet. Nothing like a little poisoning scare to top the day off.

Lesson learned son.....our lives are definitely impacted by your doggies. They love you very much and couldn’t imagine celebrating your special day without cake. They are so very thoughtful. All in all it was a fabulous day and we had fun thinking about how spectacular our lives became exactly 1 year ago.

Love,
Mom and Dad

PS. Sorry about your first haircut. Your dad thought you were getting close to having a mullet so Mom thought she’d try and fix it. You now kind of look like Karl from the movie Sling Blade. We can’t resist saying “uuuhuhhh, french fried poetaterz” every time we see the back of your head. Thank goodness hair grows.

Congrats on joining the blogging world coop! All that practice writing notes has paid off!

Sounds like you guys had a good first birthday. The dogs were just trying to help you guys save yourself some calories! And though I am sure it was scary, there is probably very little actual chocolate in chocolate frosting. Glad they are doing well.

Happy first birthday again Cooper! And congrats to mom and dad for surviving the first year!

Happy first birthday Cooper!

Congratulations to YOU for surviving the first year. Your parents don't know what the hell they are doing. . . but come to think of it I don't think any parent knows what they are doing.

Now, this coming year I really want you to turn the heat up. Give 'em hell!

Coop' grandad is pleased to see that he is well protected by his parents. criters beware, not on their watch will he be taken without a fight. I rest better with the knowledge he is in safe, and brave hands.
